NEW ORLEANS MAN INDICTED FOR VIOLATING FEDERAL GUN CONTROL ACT

ANTHONY HICKMAN, 57, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury yesterday for unlawful possession of a firearm by a person who has been convicted of a felony, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the indictment, on February 9, 2009, HICKMAN knowingly possessed a Lorcin Model L380, .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The indictment alleges that HICKMAN has January 8, 2003 conviction for possession of heroin and a November 14, 2003 conviction for possession of heroin.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
If convicted, HICKMAN faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a fine of up to $250,000, and a maximum of 3 years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Sharan E. Lieberman.
