NEW ORLEANS MAN SENTENCED TO 240 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR GUN AND DRUG VIOLATIONS

ANDRE K. FOUNTAIN a/k/a Dre, age 28, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt to 120 months imprisonment for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and 240 months for possessing with intent to distribute over 50 grams of crack cocaine, both sentences to run concurrently, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Engelhardt imposed three (3) years of supervised release for the firearm charge and ten (10) years of supervised release for the drug charge following the term of imprisonment.

According to documents filed in federal court, FOUNTAIN along with a co-defendant, RONALD D. WALLIS, used a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun to protect themselves as they were distributing illegal narcotics from 1648 Casa Calvo Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. A federal search warrant executed on October 20, 2006 at the residence yielded among other things over 50 grams of cocaine base or “crack” and a 12 gauge shotgun the defendant, FOUNTAIN, admitted to holding during the sale of illegal narcotics during the month of October 2006. FOUNTAIN is a previously convicted felon and was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm at the time.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the New Orleans Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Abram McGull, II and Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
