METAIRIE RESIDENT CHARGED WITH THEFT OF MAIL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULES J. CHATELAIN, age 29, a resident of Metairie, Louisiana, was charged today in a six-count Bill of Information with theft of mail, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
The Bill of Information charges CHATELAIN with stealing mail from six (6) residential mailboxes on Coolidge Street, in Jefferson, Louisiana, on January 22, 2009. Specifically, the Bill of Information alleges that CHATELAIN stole twenty-seven (27) pieces of mail from the Coolidge Street mailboxes.
If convicted, CHATELAIN faces a maximum of five (5) years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, three years supervised release following any term of imprisonment and a $100 special assessment for each count.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Jordan Ginsberg.
