ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ORLIN YOBANI MEJIA-CABALLERO, age 19, a resident of Honduras, pled guilty in federal court today before U. S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to a one-count indictment charging him with illegal re-entry by a removed alien, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the factual basis, on or about May 18, 2009, MEJIA-CABALLERO, an alien who had previously been removed, was knowingly and unlawfully found in the United States in
St. Charles Parish, Louisiana without the Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States.

MEJIA-CABALLERO faces a maximum statutory penalty of two years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and one year of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for January 14, 2010 at 1:30 P.M.

The case was investigated by the U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
