BROTHERS PLEAD GUILTY TO KATRINA RELATED FEMA FRAUD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JOVAUGHN A. RISIN, age 24, a resident of Laplace, Louisiana and his brother, QUINN P. RISIN, age 25, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court today before U. S. District Court Judge Martin L.C. Feldman to Katrina related mail fraud, announced U. S. Attorney, Jim Letten.
According to court documents, following Hurricane Katrina, JOVAUGHN RISIN and QUINN RISIN each applied for FEMA disaster relief fraudulently claimed that their primary residence was on Ursulines Avenue in New Orleans and that the storm caused damaged to their personal property when. The defendants admitted today that the subject property was owned by another person and was not occupied at the time of the storm. Based on the fraudulent claims, each defendant received $10,391.51 from FEMA.
Each defendant faces a maximum term of twenty (20) years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The sentencing date is February 11, 2009.
This investigation was conducted by U. S. Postal Inspection Service and the Department of Homeland Security. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Julia K. Evans.
