DOCTOR SENTENCED FOR FAILING TO PAY TAXES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BLAINEY J. NICHOLAS, age 43, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced in federal court yesterday by United States District Court Judge Jay C. Zainey to five (5) years probation with a special condition that he serve six (6) months home confinement for failing to file a tax return, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. NICHOLAS was also ordered to pay the Internal Revenue Service restitution in the amount of $84,898, pay a $20,000 fine, as well as perform 300 hours of community service.
According to court documents, during the 2002 tax year, NICHOLAS received more than $200,000 in gross income, which exceeded the statutory amounts and failed to file a tax return with the Internal Revenue Service, on or before April 15, 2003.

Investigation, stated:
"Failure to file your income tax return is not a victimless crime. Honest, hardworking Americans pay the price when others choose to violate this basic requirement of citizenship. The vast majority of taxpayers are honest and they are entitled to know that when dishonesty is suspected the trail will be followed to its logical end. Special Agents of IRS Criminal Investigation are highly skilled investigators who will continue to work with the United States Attorney's Office to bring these individuals to justice steadfastly working to maintain the public's confidence in our tax system.”
The case was investigated by the Special Agents of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigations. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri.
