FILIPINO MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MAKING A FALSE STATEMENT TO A FEDERAL AGENCY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NORMAN SIMON, age 40, a resident of the Philippines, pled guilty in federal court yesterday before U. S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to a one-count indictment charging him with making a false statement to a federal agency, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on approximately April 20, 2009, SIMON knowingly made a false statement while under oath to a Citizenship and Immigration Services adjudicator regarding the number of times he had been married.

SIMON faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for February 11, 2010.

The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with the assistance of the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation, U. S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service, and U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
