Mr. Dugas is currently serving as the United States Attorney for the Middle
District of Louisiana. He was nominated for that position by President Bush
on October 4, 2001 and was sworn in as interim United States Attorney on October
17, 2001. The Senate confirmed Mr. Dugas' nomination on November 30, 2001 and
he was sworn in as the Presidentially appointed United States Attorney on December
7, 2001. As United States Attorney, Mr. Dugas is the chief federal law enforcement
officer for the Middle District of Louisiana and is responsible for all federal
criminal prosecutions, all civil litigation involving the United States of America,
and the collection of debts owed to the United states within the Middle District
of Louisiana.
Prior to his appointment as United States Attorney, Mr. Dugas was in private
practice as a partner with the Lafayette, Louisiana law firm of Caffery, Oubre,
Dugas & Campbell, L.L.P. Mr. Dugas is a 1978 graduate of L.S.U. Law School
where he served as Associate Editor of the Louisiana Law Review, member of the
Moot Court Board, and was selected to the Order of the Coif. He was inducted
into the L.S.U. Law Center Hall of Fame on November 14, 1987. He is a former
director of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel.
