CLINTON MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO IMPERSONATING A FEDERAL EMPLOYEE AND MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT
BOSTON, MA - A Clinton man pled guilty yesterday to impersonating an employee of the United States Army Corps of Engineers and making false statements to Army investigators.
Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks and Michael Conner, Resident Agent in Charge of the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command, announced today that WILLIAM FATEIGER, 36 of Clinton, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Tauro to one count of impersonating a federal employee and one count of making false statements to law enforcement officers.
At yesterday’s plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that FATEIGER created a document, purporting to be a determination by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, that certain property in Templeton, MA was not under the jurisdiction of the Corps and not subject to regulation under the Clean Water Act. Then, when questioned by Army investigators, FATEIGER denied having created the document.
Judge Tauro scheduled the sentencing for July 30, 2009. FATEIGER faces up to three years in prison on the false impersonation charge, to be followed by one year supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. He faces up to five years in prison on the false statements charge, to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
This case was investigated by the Army Criminal Investigation Command. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah E. Walters and Paul Moore of the Economic Crimes Unit.
