DRUG TRAFFICKER SENTENCED TO 94 MONTHS

BOSTON, MA - A Boston-area man was sentenced to 94 months in prison and a $20,000 fine yesterday for his role in a cocaine and marijuana trafficking conspiracy that brought over 2,000 kilograms of cocaine and several hundred pounds of marijuana to Massachusetts.

Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks, Steven Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division and Colonel Mark Delaney, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police announced today that RICHARD COLLADO, 51, of Framingham, Massachusetts, was sentenced to 94 months imprisonment by U.S. District Judge Nancy Gertner.

Evidence presented during the thirteen-day trial proved that COLLADO, MICHAEL GRIFFIN and DAVID VENEY were part of a large scale drug-trafficking conspiracy that distributed $40 million worth of cocaine and marijuana in Boston from 1999 to 2002.

COLLADO helped transport shipments of drugs to Boston and Chicago and also distributed over 50 kilograms of cocaine in Boston. Together, the defendants trafficked approximately 2,000 kilograms of cocaine and 2,000 pounds of marijuana during the course of the conspiracy.

Judge Gertner scheduled sentencing for GRIFFIN and VENEY for September 14, 2009.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Massachusetts State Police. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathaniel Mendell and William Trach of Loucks’ Drug Unit.
