NORTH OXFORD MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

BOSTON, MA - A North Oxford man was convicted in federal court of possession of child pornography.

Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks; Warren Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division; Michael J. Boss, Chief, Oxford Police Department; and James Hurley, Chief, Leicester Police Department, announced today that JOHN R. CORAN, age 51, of Thayer Pond Drive, North Oxford, pled guilty before U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV, to possession of child pornography.

At the plea hearing on Wednesday, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that during the last several years, CORAN had purchased subscriptions to websites containing images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Additionally, during a search of CORAN's residence, agents recovered photo albums and printed images of child pornography. CORAN admitted that he possessed the images, and that he had downloaded the images from various websites on the Internet.

CORAN pled guilty pursuant to a plea agreement, and faces 46-57 months of imprisonment followed by 5 years of supervised release. Judge Saylor scheduled sentencing for September 12, 2009.

The case was investigated by the FBI, the Oxford Police Department and the Leicester Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Karin M. Bell of Loucks’s Worcester Branch Office.
