SPRINGFIELD MAN SENTENCED ON DRUG CHARGES
BOSTON, MA - A Springfield man was sentenced late yesterday in federal court for Conspiracy and several drug distribution charges.
United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division, announced today that WILLIAM ALVARADO, age 40, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to time served, to be followed by six years of supervised release (with one year to be spent at a halfway house) and no fine. ALVARADO pled guilty to Conspiracy, three counts of Distribution of Cocaine, one count of Distribution of Cocaine Base, one count of Distribution of Heroin, and one count of Distribution of Cocaine in a School Zone on September 27, 2007.
At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that the defendant was involved in a drug conspiracy during 2005 to 2006 that distributed wholesale and retail quantities of cocaine, cocaine base, and heroin in the Springfield area. The defendant brought drugs, sold drugs, re-sold drugs, and helped broker transactions between drug dealers.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant of Sullivan's Springfield Branch Unit.
