LOWELL MAN SENTENCED TO FIFTEEN YEARS ON GUN CHARGE
BOSTON, MA - A Lowell man was sentenced today in federal court for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks and Glenn N. Anderson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms - Boston Field Division, announced today that MICHAEL GALLOWAY, age 24, of Lowell, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph Tauro to 15 years imprisonment, to be followed by 5 years of supervised release. GALLOWAY pled guilty on August 11, 2008, to being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that on the evening of October 31, 2007, Haverhill Police responded to a call of gun shots fired in the vicinity of 5th Avenue. When they arrived, an individual, fitting the description given of the shooter fled the area and after a brief chase they arrested GALLOWAY. Found on GALLOWAY was a loaded .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol and ten bags of crack cocaine.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Haverhill Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine of Loucks’s Major Crime Unit.
