FORMER BOSTON MAN CHARGED WITH FAILING TO REPORT TO PRISON

BOSTON, MA - A Bradford man, formerly of Boston, was charged today in federal court with failing to surrender for service of his prison sentence.

Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks, Susan Dukes, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, Boston Field Division, and Warren Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division, announced today that CHUONG VAN DUONG, age 60, of 178 Kingsbury Avenue, Bradford, MA, was charged in an Indictment with failing to report to prison to serve his sentence as ordered.

The Indictment alleges that in May 2009, CHUONG VAN DUONG was sentenced to prison by a federal judge in Massachusetts, and ordered to report on June 5 to serve his sentence at a prison facility to be designated by the Bureau of Prisons. The Indictment alleges that, approximately one week before he was ordered to report, CHUONG VAN DUONG cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet, left his residence without approval and went to Canada. The Indictment alleges that CHUONG VAN DUONG failed to report to prison on June 5 as ordered.

If convicted on this charge, CHUONG VAN DUONG faces up to five years’ imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.

The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark J. Balthazard of Loucks’ Economic Crimes Unit.

The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
