PROJECT SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS

As a result of PSN resources and the commitment of key partners, the Maryland PSN Task Force has continued to evolve. The Task Force has grown to more than 40 members representing more than a dozen partner agencies from throughout the state. The Maryland Task Force meets quarterly to update and evaluate the progress of local PSN initiatives, as well as conduct the business of the state-wide Task Force. In addition to becoming a viable state-wide entity, the Task Force has spawned two fully operational local PSN Task Forces in Prince George’s and Wicomico counties. The local Task Forces meet monthly and coordinate with AUSAs. The PSN initiative has also galvanized several informal working partnerships among agencies and service providers in jurisdictions such as Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

The Maryland PSN Task Force has partnered with agencies and service providers from the following areas:

Federal Law Enforcement: Washington-Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) and ATF;

State Law Enforcement: Maryland State Police;

Local Law Enforcement: Baltimore City Police Department, Baltimore County Police Department, Prince George’s County Police Department, Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office, Salisbury City Police Department, Montgomery County Police Department, Annapolis City Police Department, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office;

State and Local Prosecutors: Wicomico County State’s Attorney, Baltimore City State’s Attorney, Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney;

Local Government: Governor’s Office for Crime Control & Prevention, State Department of Juvenile Justice and the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office;

Community Leaders and Organizations: University of Maryland College Park, Family League of Baltimore, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, Reaching Objectives Through Joint Actions (ROJA), the Enterprise Foundation, Coppin State College, Project Garrison NW Weed and Seed and the Historic East Baltimore Weed and Seed site.

PSN has enhanced the communication of federal prosecutors with state prosecutors and local law enforcement, resulting in the creation of Maryland EXILE. Maryland’s PSN initiative works closely in supporting the prosecutorial and investigative efforts of gun prosecutors within the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office, the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office. The USAO has cross-designated a Baltimore City prosecutor to assist in bringing many of the city’s most violent criminals for federal prosecution. In addition, the USAO receives federal gun case referrals directly from state and local law enforcement agencies throughout Maryland.
