Program Abstract:
funding is provided to support a gang prevention initiative targeting
youth in middle and high schools in Baltimore City public school system through
a summer program and after-school program that develops creative/artistic skills
in the youth participants through the development of theater projects.

Hagerstown PD
Award: $24,980
Program Abstract:
Funding is for a gang prevention strategy for youth in Hagerstown
supporting martial arts fees, YMCA activity fees and transportation costs for
targeted at risk youth. The Martial Arts
Program has sponsored children, ranging in age from pre-adolescent to 16
years. A mentoring weekend/camping trip
has been part of the program using transportation funded by the USAO-MD award.
The Martial Arts Program has also involved parents of the
youth participants fostering stronger relationships and bond between children
and parents. The participation of the
parents is not funded by the grant but is in-kind support through the Martial
Arts Program.

Howard County PD
Award: $39,000
Program Abstract:
Funding is provided for a youth anti-gang prevention program by
establishing a Mobile Police Athletic league (PAL) with the purchase of sports
equipment, equipment trailer, police overtime & training, printing, program
tees, awards and a gang tip line. The Mobile
PAL Program targets elementary and middle school youth and is supervised by
Howard County PD SRO’s and sets up on a rotating basis at five (5) community
sites; two middle schools, 2 county parks and a county library, each site
operating 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The
Program includes basketball, flag football, board games (i.e. chess), baseball
and electronic games

Prince George’s County - Latin
American Youth Center
Award: $43,010
Program Abstract: Funding was provided for support of
a gang prevention program in Prince George’s County public school system,
serving Langley Park, Hyattsville, Bladensburg, Riverdale and Beltsville. Specifically, USAO-MD grant funds support a
case worker and in-school coordinator to access and track governmental and
non-governmental services for youth participants with an emphasis on older
youth in high school. The program was
implemented in three (3) Prince George County high schools.

University of Maryland – Public
Safety, Training & Technical Assistance
Award: $91,850
Program Abstract: Funds are provided to hire a School Outreach
Coordinator. This position will develop,
promote and provide gang and gun violence prevention/intervention programs to
schools in Maryland. Activities include;
identifying training needs by communication with school systems, law
enforcement and communities, establishing appropriate curriculums, identifying
and acquiring qualified instructors and instruct the program as needed.
