STATEMENT OF UNITED STATES ATTORNEY ROD ROSENSTEIN
CONCERNING JURY DEADLOCK IN THE CHARLES COUNTY ARSON
TRIAL OF MICHAEL EVERHART AND ROY McCANN
United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein stated, “We are grateful to the jurors for their service. It is unfortunate that they were unable to reach a verdict. We plan to retry Michael Everhart and Roy McCann as soon as possible.”
“I would like to thank the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office for their outstanding investigative work. I also commend Assistant United States Attorneys Donna Sanger and Chan Park for their excellent work in prosecuting this case.”

Three co-defendants have been convicted and sentenced in connection with the Charles County arson investigation. Patrick Walsh, age 21, of Ft. Washington, Maryland, was convicted after trial in September, 2005 of conspiracy to commit arson and 35 counts of arson and was sentenced to 235 months in prison. Jeremy Parady, age 21, of Accokeek, and Aaron Speed, age 22, of Waldorf pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit arson and were sentenced to 87 months and 100 months in prison, respectively. Judge Titus also ordered that each defendant pay restitution of $3,274,538.42.
