ARMED ROBBER SENTENCED TO OVER 9 YEARS IN PRISON
Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte, sentenced Desmond Christopher Seegars, age 20, of Washington, D.C., today to 111 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for an armed robbery of a business. Judge Messitte also ordered Seegars to pay restitution of $2,047.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; and Interim Chief Mark Magaw of the Prince George’s County Police Department.
According to Seegars’ guilty plea, on January 8, 2009, Seegars and a co-defendant robbed the GameStop store located at 6241 Livingston Road in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Seegars and the other person initially posed as customers in the store, then brandished handguns at the two employees and demanded money, stealing $2,047. A video security system captured photographs of the defendants which were provided to the Prince George’s County Police Department. GameStop employees identified Seegars as one of the individuals who used a gun to rob the store.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF and the Prince George’s County Police Department for their work in the investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorneys William D. Moomau and Mara Zusman Greenberg, who prosecuted the case.
