BALTIMORE ARMED CAREER CRIMINAL EXILED
TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR GUN POSSESSION
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles, Jr. sentenced Gregory Banks, age 26, of Baltimore today to 15 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a gun, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Judge Quarles enhanced Banks’ sentence upon finding that Banks is an armed career criminal based on two prior convictions for assault and two prior drug convictions.
According to his guilty plea, Baltimore City police officers noticed that the driver of a car carrying Banks was driving on West Lexington Street in Baltimore without a seatbelt. They followed the car in order to conduct a traffic stop. Banks jumped out and ran into a nearby wooded area. The officers pursued Banks, who stopped after throwing a gun in an open area. The officers seized the gun and arrested Banks.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy and Assistant State’s Attorney Charles Fitzpatrick, the Baltimore Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorney Clinton J. Fuchs, who prosecuted the case.
