BALTIMORE DRUG TRAFFICKER AND CAREER OFFENDER
SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg sentenced Reginald Adams, age 37, of Baltimore, Maryland today to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession with the intent to distribute heroin. Judge Legg enhanced Adams’ sentence upon finding that Adams is a career offender based on one previous felony drug conviction and one conviction for a crime of violence.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein; and Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III.
According to Adams’ plea agreement, on February 18, 2010, Baltimore Police officers were in the 2100 block of Penrose Avenue in Baltimore when they observed Adams leaving a house, and adjusting something in his front waistband. As Adams walked away, the officers began to drive towards Adams. Adams turned, looked directly at the officers’ vehicle and removed a clear plastic bag from his waistband, tossing it into the street. The officers detained Adams and retrieved the plastic bag, which held four smaller plastic bags containing a total of 100 gel caps of heroin. Adams was arrested.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, the Baltimore Police Department and Baltimore City Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca Finn, for their work in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Special Assistant United States Attorney Christopher M. Mason, a cross-designated Baltimore City Assistant State’s Attorney assigned to Exile cases, who prosecuted the case.
