BALTIMORE FELON EXILED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR POSSESSING A GUN
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles, Jr. sentenced Lionel Holloway, age 35, of Baltimore today to 15 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a gun. Judge Quarles enhanced Holloway’s sentence upon finding that Holloway is an armed career criminal based on three previous convictions for drug offenses.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy; and Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III.
According to Holloway’s plea agreement, on December 20, 2008 Baltimore Police officers stopped the vehicle Holloway was driving in the 3500 block of Park Heights Avenue in Baltimore for speeding. The officers detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Holloway. Before conducting a sobriety test, the officers asked Holloway if he had any weapons. Holloway responded that there was a gun in the vehicle. Officers seized a loaded, semi-automatic pistol from the vehicle. Holloway had previously been convicted of a felony and was prohibited from possessing a gun.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked ATF, the Baltimore Police Department and the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in this investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorney John W. Sippel, Jr., who prosecuted the case.
