BALTIMORE FELON EXILED TO MORE THAN 9 ½ YEARS IN PRISON FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A GUN
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Michael Fuller, age 47, of Baltimore, today to 115 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a gun.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy; and Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III.
According to the evidence presented at Fuller’s two day trial, on June 23, 2008, a concerned citizen called the police to report that she had been driving in the vicinity of Interstate 695 and Liberty Road when she was nearly struck by a reckless driver in a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. The concerned citizen reported that she followed the car into Baltimore City where the Sonata eventually struck a curb, blew out its front tire and stopped in the 1100 block of Orleans Street.
Officers arrived at the scene, approached the Hyundai and attempted to speak with the driver, later identified as Michael Fuller. The officers detected the strong smell of alcohol when they attempted to speak to Fuller, and they received only a slurred response. Believing that Fuller was intoxicated, the officers removed him from the car and saw a Bersa, Model 383-A .38 caliber pistol in the car’s center console, next to the driver’s seat. Officers recovered the gun and placed arrested Fuller after determining that he did not have a permit for the firearm.
