BALTIMORE FELON EXILED TO OVER 15 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON
FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A GUN
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Daniel Brown, age 45, of Baltimore, Maryland, today to 188 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein and Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy. Judge Blake enhanced Brown’s sentence upon finding that he was an armed career criminal based on two prior felony drug convictions and two convictions for crimes of violence.
According to the plea agreement, on April 28, 2007, plain clothes Baltimore Police Department detectives were traveling in an unmarked car in the 2200 block of Barclay St., a high crime area, when they saw Daniel Brown walking quickly and looking around nervously. Due to Brown’s reaction and the nature of the area, the detectives approached Brown to conduct a field interview. As they walked toward Brown, one of the detectives, whose badge was displayed around his neck, asked if he could speak with Brown for a minute. Brown immediately reached into his front right pants pocket and removed a small silver handgun, which he threw into a vacant, grassy lot. Brown was arrested and the gun, a loaded Galesi, .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, was recovered.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein and Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy thanked the Baltimore City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance in the investigation. Mr. Rosenstein and Ms. Jessamy commended Special Assistant United States Attorney Christopher M. Mason, a cross-designated Baltimore City Assistant State’s Attorney assigned to EXILE cases, who prosecuted the case and Assistant State’s Attorneys James Francomano and Jessica Paugh who assisted in the prosecution.
