BALTIMORE FELON WITH A GUN EXILED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett sentenced Leroy Scrivner, age 35, of Baltimore, today to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a gun, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to Scrivner’s plea agreement, on October 9, 2008, Scrivner and his girlfriend, who shared a residence, got into an argument and as a result, his girlfriend contacted police and requested an ex parte order. A Baltimore City Police officer arrived at the home and was told by Scrivner’s girlfriend that Scrivner had left the area, but had told her he would return. The girlfriend also advised that Scrivner was carrying a handgun. The officer left the residence but advised the girlfriend to call him if Scrivner returned. Scrivner returned to the home that same evening. Several officers went to the home, found Scrivner there and asked to search him for weapons. Scrivner tried to run away but fell down the steps and was caught by two of the officers. Scriver was arrested and a loaded .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver was recovered from his jacket pocket. Scrivner was previously convicted of a felony and was prohibited from possessing a gun.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy and her office, the Baltimore Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant U.S. Attorney Mushtaq Z. Gunja, who prosecuted the case.
