BALTIMORE MAN EXILED TO OVER 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR
CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE HEROIN
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles, Jr. sentenced Tyron Rich, age 27, of Baltimore today to 121 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to his guilty plea, on May 7, 2008, Rich, aka “Forty,” and a co-conspirator agreed to purchase a kilogram of heroin. Rich and the co-conspirator met with an FBI undercover agent at a rest stop in Elkton, Maryland to complete the purchase. At that time, Rich and the co-conspirator also discussed buying additional heroin and cocaine with the undercover agent. Rich’s co-conspirator gave the undercover agent $65,000 and was told to pick up the kilogram of heroin which was stored in a car outside of the rest stop. Thereafter, FBI agents arrested Rich and his co-conspirator.
In addition, Rich and his co-conspirator purchased two guns from an FBI cooperator on January 25, 2008. Rich and his co-conspirator are prohibited from possessing any firearms due to a previous felony conviction.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy and her office, the Baltimore Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their assistance in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorneys Kwame J. Manley and Robert R. Harding, who are prosecuting the case.
