BALTIMORE ROBBER EXILED TO OVER 12 YEARS IN PRISON
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles, Jr. sentenced Davon Steele, age 30, of Baltimore, today to 151 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for armed robbery. Judge Quarles enhanced Steele’s sentence upon finding that he is a career offender based on previous convictions for controlled substances offenses.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Richard A. McFeely of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy; and Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III.
According to Steele’s plea agreement, on December 30, 2006, Steele and others, several of whom carried guns, entered a check cashing store in Baltimore. Three of the men forced their way into the rear booth area, pointing their guns. The fourth person remained outside the booth area and ordered the customers and staff to be quiet. The robbers demanded that employees provide store money to them, and placed approximately $28,000 into a trash can. The suspects then fled the store.
Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael C. Hanlon, who prosecuted this case.
