MAN EXILED TO 14 YEARS IN PRISON ON GUN AND DRUG CHARGES

Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Andre M. Davis sentenced Reginald Vandervall, age 36, of Baltimore, today to 14 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.

According to his guilty plea, on October 25, 2007, Vandervall was selling drugs from the basement of a home in the 4100 block of Walrad Avenue in Baltimore. Baltimore Police officers received information that drugs were being sold from the home and knocked on the basement door, which was answered by one of Vandervall’s co-conspirators who was holding a clear zip-lock bag containing crack cocaine. When the man saw the officers he ran back into the basement, with the officers following. As the officers entered the basement they saw Vandervall throw a clear ziplock bag which held 27 smaller ziplock bags, each containing crack cocaine, onto a chair next to him. Officers arrested Vandervall and the other man. Vandervall told the officers that he had a gun under the chair next to him. Officers recovered a loaded .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver from the chair. Vandervall has two previous convictions for distribution or possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy and Assistant State’s Attorney Keri Borzilleri, the Baltimore Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorney Cheryl L. Crumpton, who is prosecuting the case.
