OSWEGO MALL CRACK DEALER SENTENCED TO OVER 11 YEARS IN PRISON
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Craig Winkey, age 29, of Baltimore, Maryland, today to 140 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine. Judge Blake enhanced Winkey’s sentence upon finding that he was a career offender based on two previous narcotics convictions.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy; Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III; and Special Agent in Charge Ava Cooper-Davis of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Washington Field Division.
According to Winkey’s guilty plea, during March and April 2006, Winkey was part of drug distribution conspiracy, involving the street-level distribution of crack cocaine in the Oswego Mall housing area and in the vicinity of the 3600 block of Park Heights Avenue in Baltimore. These “shops” sold vials of crack cocaine for $5 per vial. On March 24 and April 13, 2006, Winkey and other members of the conspiracy sold 4 vials of crack cocaine to an undercover Baltimore police officer. Winkey admits that during the two months of the conspiracy, he was responsible for the distribution of between 50 and 150 grams of crack cocaine.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorneys Debra L. Dwyer and Gregory Welsh, who prosecuted the case.
