FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY FELON EXILED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A GUN
Greenbelt, Maryland - Chief U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced Kevin Lynn Blake, age 30, of Landover, Maryland, today to 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for being a felon in possession of a gun.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks; and Interim Chief Mark Magaw of the Prince George’s County Police Department.
According to Blake’s plea agreement, on June 27, 2008, a detective with the Prince George’s County Police Department stopped at a convenience store on McKendre Road. The store clerk asked the detective to remove Blake from the property. Blake was in the parking lot soliciting cash from customers purchasing gasoline, in exchange for Blake charging the purchase to a credit card that did not belong to him. The detective watched Blake pump gas for someone and take their cash, then approached Blake in his unmarked police vehicle. As the detective spoke with Blake, he noticed a bulge in Blake’s waistband, which he believed to be a gun. The detective patted Blake down and recovered a .45 caliber pistol from Blake’s waistband. Blake had previously been convicted of robbery in the Prince George’s County Circuit Court and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Prince George’s County Police Department and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in this investigation and thanked Assistant United States Attorney Stuart A. Berman, who prosecuted the case.
