PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO
OVER 12 YEARS ON GUN AND DRUG CHARGES
Sentenced to an Additional Year for Violations of Supervised Release on a Previous Conviction
Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced Henry E. Beale, age 34, of Laurel, Maryland, today to 150 months in prison followed by eight years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute more than five grams of crack cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Judge Chasanow also sentenced Beale to 12 months in prison, for violating his supervised release on a previous conviction, consecutive to today’s sentence for drug distribution and illegal gun possession.
According to his guilty plea, on August 1, 2008, Prince George’s County police officers were conducting surveillance in the 900 block of Sheridan Street in Hyattsville, where Beale was known to sell narcotics. The officers knew that Beale had an open warrant for a probation violation.
During the surveillance, uniformed officers saw Beale walking in the 900 block of Sheridan Street, and they attempted to stop him. Beale ran away when he saw the officers, but was caught and arrested after a short foot chase at 818 Rittenhouse Street in Hyattsville. Officers recovered from Beale’s pants pockets three large bags containing several small baggies of an off-white chunky substance, later determined to be a total of 49.21 grams of crack cocaine, and a loaded Smith and Wesson Model 37 .38 caliber revolver.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Prince George’s County Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their investigative work and commended Assistant United States Attorney Stacy Dawson Belf, who prosecuted the case.
