SEVEN TIME FELON EXILED TO OVER 12 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR DISTRIBUTION OF CRACK COCAINE
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Kenyon Harvey, age 30, of Baltimore today to 151 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Judge Blake found that Harvey was a career offender based on the government’s contention that there were seven previous convictions for drug distribution or violent crimes.
According to his guilty plea, on February 3, 2008, an undercover detective working with the Baltimore City Police Department approached Harvey in the 5100 block of Arbutus Avenue in Baltimore and asked if he had any “ready,” a street term used to refer to crack cocaine. Harvey walked to a nearby bush and pulled out a bag, from which he took a ziplock baggie containing a white, rock-like substance. Harvey gave the baggie to the undercover detective in exchange for cash. After the sale, the undercover detective left the area and notified a nearby team of police officers, who arrested Harvey. During a subsequent search, officers recovered the money from Harvey paid to him by the undercover detective. The officers also retrieved a bag with 20 ziplock baggies containing crack cocaine from the bush where Harvey had hidden it.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy and Assistant State’s Attorney Jenifer Layman, the Baltimore Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorney Michael C. Hanlon, who prosecuted the case.
