Portland, Maine: United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced today that Richard
D. Gooding, age 38 of Youngstown, Ohio was arrested this afternoon for robbing the Bangor Savings
Bank on Brighton Avenue in Portland, Maine on November 13, 2012. The arrest was made in Lisbon,
Ohio by FBI agents from the Cleveland field office of the FBI.
Today’s arrest was based on a criminal complaint that was filed this morning in federal court in
Portland. United States Attorney Delahanty said that the investigation leading to the charges was
conducted by the Portland Police Department with assistance by the Southern Maine Gang Task Force,
which is made up of investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Portland Police
Department, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. It is
expected that Gooding will appear in a federal court in Ohio before being returned to Maine to face the
charges.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless
proven guilty in a court of law.
