Biddeford Man Sentenced to Five-Year Statutory

Portland, Maine: United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that Shawn Sayer,
43, of Biddeford, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Portland by Judge D. Brock Hornby to the
statutory maximum of 5 years in prison and 3 years of supervised release for cyberstalking. Sayer pled
guilty to the charge on August 13, 2012.
According to court records, in 2009, Sayer used the Internet to harass and cause substantial
emotional distress to his ex-fiancée, who then lived in Louisiana, by: (1) uploading to adult pornography
websites sexually explicit video clips of her using her real name and actual street address; (2) creating a
Facebook account in her name in which he posted her photographs and hyperlinks to the sexually
explicit videos, and posting that “she” was interested in a number of sexual activities; and (3) creating
dozens of Yahoo! Messenger profiles using some variation of her name, using sexually explicit
photographs of her, and inviting men to her residence for sexual encounters. As a result, Sayer caused
numerous men, previously unknown to his ex-fiancée, to come to her residence in Louisiana seeking
sexual encounters with her, terrifying her and causing her to fear that she could be sexually assaulted or
otherwise physically harmed.
The investigation was conducted by the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, with
assistance from the United States Secret Service.
