FORMER UNION SECRETARY-TREASURER SENTENCED FOR EMBEZZLEMENT

           MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – Renita Lynn Dompier, 37, of Greenville, Wisconsin was sentenced to one year of probation with six months of home detention for embezzlement from a labor organization by an employee, U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Miles, Jr. announced today. In addition to the term of probation and home detention, U.S. District Judge R. Allan Edgar ordered Dompier to pay $11,793.89 in restitution and to pay a $100 special assessment.

           On May 10, 2012, Dompier pleaded guilty to Count 1 of a federal indictment charging her with embezzlement from a labor organization by an employee. Dompier served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Woodworkers Local Lodge W-283, which represents workers employed by CertainTeed Ceilings in L’Anse, Michigan. While serving as Secretary-Treasurer from December 2004 through October 2009, Dompier embezzled over $10,000 from the union for her own personal use.

           The Office of Labor-Management Standards investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul D. Lochner and Maarten Vermaat prosecuted the case..
