EMPLOYEE OF FOUR WINDS RESORT
PLEADS GUILTY TO THEFT FROM A TRIBAL CASINO
THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 2009 -
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Derrick Levalle Brooks, 32, of Merrillville, Indiana, pled guilty to theft by an employee from a tribal gaming organization, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today. Brooks, while employed by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, as a dealer at the craps tables in Four Winds Resort in New Buffalo, Michigan, took $3,100 worth of chips valued at $25 and $100 each from his bank roll.
Sentencing has been scheduled for July 14, 2009, before U.S. District Judge Gordon J. Quist. Brooks faces a maximum sentence of twenty years’ imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
U.S. Attorney Davis commended the Pokagon Band Tribal Police and special agents of FBI, St. Joseph office for their work on the case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff J. Davis.
