FORMER MAYOR OF BELDING PLEADS GUILTY

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2009 - Grand Rapids, Mich.: Shane Husted, former Mayor of Belding, pled guilty to defrauding First Bank of West Michigan out of at least $36,000, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today. Husted admitted that he defrauded his former employer by using confidential information of bank customers to apply for and receive loans for his own personal benefit. Magistrate Judge Hugh W. Brenneman, Jr., took the plea and indicated he would recommend that U.S. District Court Judge Janet T. Neff accept it. Husted was released on bond pending sentencing. He faces up to thirty years in prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

The investigation was lead by FBI Special Agent Roberta Gilligan and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew G. Borgula.
