JEFFERSON COUNTY MAN SENTENCED ON FEDERAL CHARGES INVOLVING HIS THEFT OF BOATS AND OTHER RELATED WATER CRAFT VEHICLES

St. Louis, MO: James E. Forshee was sentenced to 28 months in prison for fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property involving his scheme to steal recreational vehicles and resell them, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today.

Between 2006 and 2007, Forshee or others stole boats, boat parts, trailers, personal water craft or recreational vehicles, which he would alter and sometimes repaint and rename.  Forshee attempted to retitle the vehicles in his name, or the false name of James Edward, and made a series of false statements to the Missouri Department or Revenue (DOR), in an effort to receive a title.  He  claimed that he had lost his title and needed to retitle the boats.

Between April 2006 and December 2007, Forshee and others stole $373,757 worth of boats, trailers and campers, including a $135,000 Carver cruiser, from around the State of Missouri, and either sold or attempted to sell them on eBay or directly to innocent purchasers.

JAMES E. FORSHEE, Crystal City, Missouri, pled guilty in October to two felony counts of mail fraud and one felony count of interstate transportation of stolen property.  He appeared today for sentencing before United States District E. Richard Webber.

Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the Postal Inspection Service, the Missouri State Water Patrol, Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, the National Insurance Crime Bureau and Assistant United States Attorney Howard Marcus, who handled the case for the U.S. Attorney's Office.
