February 10, 2009 DENT COUNTY MAN SENTENCED ON FEDERAL FIREARMS CHARGE St. Louis, MO: James Piatt was sentenced to 30 months in prison for illegal possession of 13 firearms, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today. On February 12, 2008, Piatt was cutting timber in the Mark Twain National Forest. Special Agents with the Forest Service noticed two rifles inside Mr. Piatt’s vehicle. Subsequent investigation revealed a total of 13 firearms in Mr. Piatt’s possession. Due to his previous felony convictions, he is forbidden by law to own or possess firearms. JAMES PIATT, Bunker, Missouri, pled guilty last November to one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He appeared for sentencing before United States District Judge Carol E. Jackson, Tuesday, February 10, in St. Louis. Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the United States Forest Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant United States Attorney Jeannette Gravis, who handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. |
