January 7, 2009 TWO MEN ARRESTED IN PHELPS COUNTY ON DRUG DISTRIBUTION AND IMMIGRATION CHARGES St. Louis, MO: Two men were arrested in Phelps County on drug and immigration charges, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today. RAUDEL GALVEZ, Springdale, Arkansas, was indicted by a federal grand jury December 31, on one felony count of possession with intent to distribute in excess of 100 kilograms of marijuana. If convicted, he faces a penalty range of five to 40 years in prison. ISRAEL GUADALUPE VALDEZ-PARRA, an illegal alien, from Mexico, was indicted the same day for re-entering the United States after previously being deported. This charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison. Both men appeared in federal court earlier today. Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. |
