January 13, 2009 ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN SIX YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON St. Louis, MO: Lazaro Lopez-Cruz was sentenced to 77 months in prison for illegal re-entry United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today. On February 25, 2008, Lopez-Cruz was arrested by the Mexico Police Department in Mexico, Missouri, on a local charge of assault and robbery and was prosecuted by the Audrain County prosecuting attorney. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on Lopez-Cruz on February 27, 2008. Following this prosecution, ICE took custody of him and confirmed that he had been previously deported and was in the United States illegally. LAZARO LOPEZ-CRUZ, Oaxala, Mexico, previously pled guilty to illegally re-entry and will be deported at the conclusion of his sentence. Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the Mexico, Missouri Police Department, the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Assistant United States Attorney Fred Dana, who handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. |
