January 7, 2009 PHELPS COUNTY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL FIREARMS CHARGE St. Louis, MO: Ronald Leon Robinson pled guilty to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway and Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney Courtney George announced today. “The prosecution of this case and the stiff penalties that Mr. Robinson is facing sends a clear message that we will not tolerate violence that endangers police officers when they are doing their best to serve and protect the people of the Eastern District of Missouri,” said Hanaway. “The Phelps County Prosecutor’s Office will continue working with all agencies in our unified efforts to remove dangerous felons from the streets of Phelps County,” added Prosecuting Attorney Courtney George. RONALD LEON ROBINSON, Edgar Springs, Missouri, pled guilty to one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, in connection with an incident on February 8, 2008, in which shots were fired from Robinson’s residence. Police reported that Robinson fired two shots at a police officer. He appeared before United States District Judge Carol E. Jackson this morning in St. Louis. Robinson now faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on March 31, 2009. Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the Edgar Springs Police Department, the Rolla Police Department, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office, the Phelps County Prosecutor’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant United States Attorney Cristian M. Stevens, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. |
