January 5, 2009 PEVELY UNION OFFICER PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL CHARGES OF EMBEZZLEMENT St. Louis, MO: Michael St. John pled guilty to embezzling $24,000 from Glass Molders Plastics Local 30, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today. Between October 2003 and December 2007, St. John, Secretary-Treasurer of the Glass Molders Plastics Local 30 located in Pevely, Missouri, embezzled approximately $24,000 of union funds by writing himself $24,085 in checks drawn on the organization's accounts. These checks were not reimbursements for organization expenses but were for his personal benefit. MICHAEL ST. JOHN, Festus, Missouri, pled guilty to one count of embezzlement by a union officer. He appeared before United States District Judge Carol E. Jackson. St. John now faces a maximum penalty of five years prison and/or fines up to $10,000 when he is sentenced on March 31, 2009. Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the U.S. Department of Labor - Office of Labor Management Standards and Assistant United States Attorney Tom Albus, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. |
