MARTHASVILLE, MISSOURI MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG & WEAPONS CHARGES

St. Louis, MO: Steven M. Hoeft pled guilty to multiple drug and weapons charges, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap and Washington Police Chief Ken Hahn announced today.

Hoeft admitted with his plea that he possessed a loaded 9 mm handgun in a shoulder holster at the time of his arrest on March 30, 2009, in Washington, Missouri.  He also admitted to having attempted to escape from Washington Police and to engaging two Washington Police Department officers in a physical altercation.   Hoeft was on bond on another federal case at the time of his arrest.

"The citizens of our community are safer as a result of this arrest," stated Chief Hahn. "This person is already a convicted felon carrying a loaded weapon in town.  Had it not been for the alert actions of the police officers in Washington, there is no telling what could have happened."

STEVEN M. HOEFT, Marthasville, Missouri, pled guilty June 22, 2009, to one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm.  He appeared before United States District Judge Catherine D. Perry, who set sentencing for August 19, 2009.

Hoeft is now facing a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000

Reap commended the work performed on the case by the Washington, Missouri Police Department and the Franklin County Narcotics Task Force.
