March 4, 2009 LOCAL MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH LEMAY, MISSOURI HOUSE EXPLOSION St. Louis, MO: Eric L. Govro was charged in a federal complaint with methamphetamine manufacturing charges, which caused the March 2 explosion of a home in Lemay, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today. According the affidavit filed with the criminal complaint, on March 2, 2009, there was an explosion followed by a fire that completely destroyed a house in Lemay, in St. Louis County. During the investigation of the fire by law enforcement officials, and while trying to locate the residents of the home, a neighbor advised that he believed that Eric Govro and his girlfriend were manufacturing methamphetamine in the basement of the home. A witness also advised that three adults ran from the house after the explosion, but prior to the fire. The Lemay Fire Department observed that the home had been blown from its foundation and found two propane tanks. One of the tanks tested positive for the presence of anhydrous ammonia, which is used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. The affidavit indicates that at the time of the explosion there were three children inside the house. All occupants of the home, including the three children, escaped without injury. The affidavit also states that in December 2008, Lincoln County Sheriff deputies stopped Govro on a traffic violation and observed a propane tank in the rear bed of the truck. A further search of the truck revealed numerous items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine. ERIC L. GOVRO, was charged in a federal complaint with one felony count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. If convicted, this charges carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. This case is being investigated by the St. Louis County Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. |
