March 5, 2009 FRANKLIN COUNTY MAN INDICTED ON FEDERAL DRUG AND FIREARMS CHARGES St. Louis, MO: William Manning was indicted for illegal possession of pseudoephedrine and a firearm, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today. According to the indictment, on July 15, 2008, Manning was in possession of pseudoephedrine for the manufacture of methamphetamine and a .9 mm pistol. Due to a previous felony conviction, Manning is forbidden to own or possess firearms. WILLIAM MANNING, St. Clair, Missouri, was indicted by a federal grand jury on one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and one felony count of possession of pseudoephedrine, knowing that it would be used to manufacture methamphetamine. He appeared in federal court Wednesday, March 5, 2009. If convicted, the firearms charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000; the drug charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the Franklin County Narcotics Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant United States Attorney Eliza Williams, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. |
