FRANKLIN COUNTY MAN INDICTED ON DRUG TRAFFICKING & FIREARMS CHARGES

St. Louis, MO: Donald Sargent was indicted for his illegal possession of marijuana and firearms in Franklin County in July 2007, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today.

DONALD SARGENT, Villa Ridge, Missouri, was indicted in late December on one felony count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, one felony count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm.  He was arrested late Wednesday and is expected to appear in federal court today.

If convicted, the defendant faces a penalty range of five years to life in prison and/or fines up to $750,000.

Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the Franklin County Narcotics Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Judge, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
