May 21, 2009 HANNIBAL, MO MAN SENTENCED ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES St. Louis, MO: Joseph Richardson was sentenced to 72 months in prison on federal drug charges, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap and Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Tom Redington announced today. JOSEPH RICHARDSON, Hannibal, Missouri, pled guilty last November to one felony count of possession with intent to distribute more than five grams of crack cocaine and one felony count of possession with intent to distribute a substance containing cocaine. Both charges stem from his trafficking of crack cocaine and powder cocaine on February 21, 2008, in the town of Hannibal. He appeared today for sentencing before United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel, in St. Louis. He had previously been sentenced to 24 months in prison for violation of his federal supervised release. The Court directed that Richardson would serve 12 months of that prior sentence consecutive to the sentence imposed on the felony drug charges, for a total term of imprisonment of 84 months. The Court also ordered the forfeiture of approximately $26,000 in cash seized from Richardson during the investigation as proceeds of illegal activity. In addition to Prosecuting Attorney Redington, Reap commended the work performed on the case by the Northeast Missouri Drug Task Force, the Hannibal Police Department and Assistant United States Attorney John Sauer, who handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
