November 5, 2009 MOBERLY MAN INDICTED ON FEDERAL FIREARMS CHARGES St. Louis, MO: Jeffrey L. Miller was indicted by a federal grand jury on federal firearms charges, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today. JEFFREY L. MILLER, Moberly, Missouri, was indicted by a federal grand jury October 1 on one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The indictment alleges that on September 15, 2008, in Randolph County, Miller was in possession of two pistols. Due to his previous criminal history, he is forbidden by law to own or possess firearms. He appeared today in federal court in St. Louis. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. This case was investigated and prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which seeks to prevent violent crime through enforcement of federal firearms laws, such as the law prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms. Reap commended the work performed on the case by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant United States Attorney Jeannette Graviss, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. |
