CARUTHERSVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO 30 YEARS IN PRISON FOR METHAMPHETAMINE CONSPIRACY, MONEY LAUNDERING AND GUN VIOLATIONS

Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today that a Pemiscot County man was sentenced to federal prison on multiple federal charges.

TIMMY NATHAN JOHNSON, Caruthersville, Missouri, was sentenced to 360 months imprisonment on one felony count of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, one count of money laundering and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Johnson appeared before U.S. District Judge Rodney W. Sippel on Thursday, October 8, 2009.

On July 15, 2009, a jury found Johnson guilty on all charges. The evidence presented at trial showed that Johnson and others had conspired for several years to import multiple pounds of methamphetamine from Mexico and distribute it in the southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas areas. Johnson and others then used local banks to transfer the funds out of state to pay for the methamphetamine.

Agents conducted a search of Johnson’s residence on June 27, 2008, and located drug scales, packaging materials and cutting agents consistent with the distribution of methamphetamine. Also located in the search were two firearms, including a loaded .380 caliber pistol.

Reap praised the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force, Bootheel Area Drug Task Force, the Caruthersville Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Arkansas State Police for their work on the case. Special Assistant United States Attorney Tim Willis handled the prosecution for the government.
