FRANKLIN COUNTY MAN INDICTED ON FEDERAL METHAMPHETAMINE & WEAPONS CHARGES

St. Louis, MO: Lenny Scott Souders was indicted on methamphetamine and illegal weapons charges, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today.

LENNY SCOTT SOUDERS, Lonedell, Missouri, was indicted September 10, 2009, by a federal grand jury on one felony count of possession of pseudoephedrine for the manufacture of methamphetamine and one felony count of being an unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm.  He was arrested earlier this week and made his first appearance in federal court this morning.

The indictment alleges that between January 2008 and May 2009, Souders purchased pseudoephedrine for the manufacture of methamphetamine in Franklin County, and in April 2009 was an unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm.

Possession of pseudoephedrine for the manufacture of methamphetamine carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000; and being an unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.

This case was investigated and prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which seeks to prevent violent crime through enforcement of federal firearms laws, such as the law prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms.

Reap commended the work performed on the case by the Franklin County Narcotics Drug Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and Assistant United States Attorney Michael Bert, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
